"I have recently bought a D90 with the 18-105 VR lens. I am so impressed by the VR technology that when looking for a telephoto zoom I knew I had to get something with VR built in.
At the moment, my budget does not extend to the realms of the f2.8 telephoto lens, but this fits the bill perfectly.
I did a fair bit of research into this lens, especially buyers reviews which spoke well of this lens. I was also pleasantly surprise to find it cheaper in Argos than anywhere else, including many online photo stores.
The lens isn't too heavy, but you may not want it round your neck for a whole day out, the quality is as you would expect from Nikon.
The focus is quick and quiet and the VR works very well, so much so that you can see the difference as soon as you half press the shutter. You hear a little 'click' at the VR motors engage and again if you release the shutter button.
There was some talk of the zoom ring being too tight, but I don't find it a problem.
I recently tried tracking seaguls in flight and got some good shots, although this is partly due to the camera, but the lens certainly didn't let it down!
Overall, I would rate the lens as 5 stars. Yes, you can get f2.8 lenses, but for the money, with VR included, I don't think there's a better deal to be had!!!"

"I have been after a good steady zoom lens, for quite some time, and this 70-300 is excellent.
It is very substantial, and quite weighty, but that is not a problem, if you get good results.It was also a very good price."
