"I had to take it bck due to the fact the display did not work and when i was using it, it was grinding away at the screws on the bottom and it left oil and metal on my kitchen carpet. When i got the replacement one it did exactly the same thing...."

"A good machine - you are unable to cheat on this machine. You have to do full stepping to record a movement. Dainty little steps won't register and the clock stops!"

An excellent idea let down by poor execution 10 June 2009

"Firstly I have to admit to a soft spot for these machines as I'd previously owned two of these bad boys (with the older, simpler, design) during 2007/2008, achieving major results. I was able to get a quite intense workout, in my own home. Each machine only lasted four months before breaking, however I had no problem with this, putting it down to overuse (once I got the hang of it I managed to get to 750+ calories per 45 minutes session, which translates to 10/11,000 steps).

I did not replace the second (old) machine as I was getting bored of the same old work out. However, roll the clock forward a year and I bought another one to add variety to my new workout regime. The new design includes a plastic covering over the mechanics... the T bar holding the 'linked lateral movement' cables was aligned wrongly and the plastic was split apart after only five minutes of use. The T bar itself was totally bent out of shape after 45 minutes and had ripped through the metal framework, making the machine unusable. I exchanged the next day for a new machine, prepared to give the benefit of the doubt. However, this time the replacement only lasted 25 minutes before becoming bent out of shape, causing the right hand plastic foot plate to crack and break on the frame and again making the machine unusable! I got a refund the day after.

I am well within the maximum recommended weight (86 kilos vs 110 kilos) so I can only conclude that poor design and bad workmanship are the problems. For these reasons I will not ever buy a V-Fit stepper again and furthermore I cannot recommend this brand to anyone. This is a real shame as I would highly recommend stepping to anyone who wants to add variety to their exercise regime or who has limited time.

A note on step machines themselves - it can take a little while to get the hang of them, particularly balancing, but this is soon overcome. I've never used the elastic ropes so can't comment on them."
