rubbish!! 04 August 2009

"If it worked it would be a fantastic purchase for the price!! Exchanged mine 3, yes 3, times as the steamer totally refused to work (although it did try really hard!). Bought the superior version online to Argos Morphy Richards brushed coffee maker (for the same price!). You really DO get what you pay for. Save your money (and boot leather)."

Quirky but useful 04 August 2009

"The picture shown is not the last one I purchased. But I do know the one pictured well, as I have bought several for my extended family.
It is very functional and with care plus some small modifications can be made to perform better than others at 3 or 4 times the price.
It lacks an over temperature sensing device.
I use it twice everyday and they usually last 18 months to 2 years before they give up finally.

The newer model not shown, which I had returned because it failed after 10 days, had some improved features with a top which was unable to be opened when pressured with steam.
However, if you inadvertantly over tightened the top after filling it with water then opening it was almost impossible for the average person.
The big failure however was the Coffee/ Off/ Steam control knob. These tend to be stiff but since it had no lever it was VERY, VERY difficult to operate. After 10 days of use twice/ day the wholly plastic control connector snapped near the Ceramic Control plate/valve making it totally useless. ( I've seen this happen of other models bought elsewhere)
This NEVER happens on the one pictured because it is a non brittle metal/nylon piece.

Argos should consult and combine the best features of each to produce a terrific piece of Kit.
Provided, that is, you understand how to use it to make fabulous foam from Semi-skimmed milk. Impossible with (fully) skimmed."

Worst cofffee machine ever! 04 August 2009

"I purchased this machine to replace my worn out espresso machine - I drink at least 6 cups a day, so I consider myself a bit of an expert in coffee machines. However, I ended up returning the product because it was so messy! Every time I emptied the old coffee grounds it dripped cold espresso all over the place and I ended up using 2 sheets of kitchen roll evey time - not very economical. Also I consider it to be over-priced for such a basic machine - a sturdier, cleaner machine can be purchased for not much more. I have given one star for the speed in which it makes a cup though - faster than the bigger machines. Probably suit very occasional user rather than an addict like myself!"
