"At last, a satellite receiver that almost installs itself, and after installation is very easy to use.

After checking the SKY+ HD receiver - prices, facilities, etc - and being disappointed by their offer forSky+ and the basic Sky channel pack, I decided to go for BBC/ITV Freesat using the Humax Foxsat PVR.

The Humax sets a standard that the rest of the electronics world has yet to reach. It'll record a whole series on the hard drive at the touch of a button and produces an on-screen prompt if an HD transmission is available for that particular selection.

It will automatically detect any amended start or end times for the chosen programme. If a programme is split into two parts with, say, The News, between the two halves, it will omit the intruding item . I've found that it will usually start, and end, "spot on" - just occasionally there is an extra minute added at the beginning or end but no "real programme time" has been lost yet..

The EPG is good. It loads instantly - perhaps it is updated automatically and stored on the hard drive? I would have been happier if the channel lines had been narrower allowing more channels to be visible per page.

The hard drive capacity is good.

Drawbacks? None inasmuch as the Humax is concerned. I would have liked to have had access to a few more drama and comedy channels and fewer music offerings, but that's a matter for BBC?ITV Freesat not Humax.

Top marks to Humax for their product."

"Bought to replace Sky+ box - just swap the two dish cables over and connect to TV using the supplied HDMI cable (no need to buy HDMI or Scart cables suggested on the Argos site - both are included) for superb HD pictures from BBC HD and some ITV programs. It will pay for itself in less than 12 months by savings on Sky subs. Box looks smart and is quiet -unlike the Sky+ box I had. Remote can control TV, DVD, and Audio equipment as well as the Humax box but has a fairly narrow operating angle. There are additional channels available in non-Freeset mode but be aware any scheduled Freesat recordings will not work while box is in this mode. Can plug in USB stick and display photos or play music from it or copy them to /from the hard drive (unlike Sky box). An additional bonus is that BBC iPlayer will soon to be available on Freesat. Superb piece of equipment!"

"Excellent unit, first class picture with HD TV. Easy to use, and recording very simple to set.
